Physiotherapy costs are tax-deductible in Austria if incurred due to illness or disability. You will need a medical prescription or certificate. The costs of physiotherapy can be claimed as extraordinary expenses. This also includes travel expenses to the treatment if you cannot use public transportation.
Physiotherapy costs can also be claimed as business expenses if you undergo the treatment as part of your professional activity. You will need a medical certificate confirming the necessity of the treatment.
The amount of deductible physiotherapy costs is limited. In 2023, the limit for extraordinary expenses is €6,200. There is no maximum limit for business expenses.
To deduct physiotherapy costs for tax purposes, you must include them in your income tax return. You will need the invoices from the physiotherapy practice and the medical prescription or certificate.
